Title: #44910 5 amp power booster problem
Post by: Mr. C on November 08, 2015, 09:28:59 AM
I have discovered that the 12volt output is not working to the track. There is a switch to change this to 14volt.Has anybody done this for ho track ?
Bachmann does not repair this item, so I am forced to purchase a new one.

If you switch it, you will probably end up with magic smoke coming from any engines you try to run.

How do you know it's not working?  There could be other issues.

Did you put a meter across the terminals and take a reading?

Cheers

Does it have a circuit breaker? This may have tripped from a short. 14 volts will work for HO DCC. My Digitrax DB150 puts out 15 Volts in the HO scale setting.  Joe

E-Z Command 5 Amp Power Booster is labeled selectable 14V or 18V

HO digital decoders should withstand 18 volts as measured at the track. The DCC waveform is not accurately read using a commonly found voltmeter. The 18V is going to affect the performance any locomotive.  Locomotive equipped with coreless can motor likely to be damaged.

You should be reluctant to use the power booster not knowing why the 14V output is not properly working.
