Title: Will Bachmann ever do railway series engines?
Post by: donaldthescottishtwin on June 24, 2016, 01:31:59 PM
Bear? D199? Wilbert the forest engine? Flying Scotsman even? FS has made his first real apperence in The Great Race so i don't think it's very far fetched. Other forms of merchandise have done RWS engines such as take along Ertl Wooden railway and Hornby why not Bachmann?

Bachmann makes engines they believe they will sell. Railway Series engines aren't very popular, so it's unlikely Bachmann would make any of them unless they appeared in the TV series and have well-selling merchandise.

I don't think Bachmann plans to enter the miniature gauge market for awhile.

Bear in mind that if Bachmann made Arlesdale Engines, they might be around $250-$300. Considering the pricing of an NG Engine, I wouldn't be surprised what the RRP would be for Mike, Rex or Bert.

While some would state that the larger the scaling, the higher the cost of a locomotive. I'm sorry to say that modelling often gets even more expensive as scaling gets reduced as well, there are reasons why HO (or OO in UK terms) is generally the most marketable scale in the Model train industry. Pricing is easily negotiable in HO, compared to other gauges.

The Arlesdale Engines would be made in Z scale obviously enough. However, if you find, or perhaps google an average Z scale Diesel locomotive, the most reasonable RRP would be around $200-$250, if not $300. Probably, one if the reasons why modelling a scale smaller than HO is expensive is that they must require intense precision to make a Z scale locomotive, and this is a diesel loco we're talking, which are cheaper than their steam counterparts.

So like I said in my last post, considering that a handful would argue over Skarloey being too expensive for his size, I could imagine what the RRP would be for the Arlesdale Engines

I've seen this thread before and I didn't expect it to be added on. I don't mind seeing the question and receiving an answer of whether or not Bachmann will make RWS characters, but I'd like to post the "final nail in the coffin" whether you like it or not.

The chances of Bachmann making RWS characters are close to zero due to the fact that most of the models are entirely based on the appearance of the TVS series and whether or not Bachmann is able/capable of making the models from my understanding or there might be some legal actions involved with what models Bachmann are able to make and distribute(however I do not know so I won't go into detail in the fear I may be wrong with that point.)

My best bet for everyone in this thread is to buy the OO gauge models and redecorate them to look RWS accurate. It's the easiest solution and not to mention the cheapest as well if you know how to do it properly. If not, there are many terrific tutorials on redecorating models in general you can apply to make the RWS characters to call your own.

I'd hate to see more of the Thomas & Friends thread become more cluttered with this type of thread. Honestly, the question was very simple and straight forward to answer but I firmly believe it's unnecessary to keep "beating a dead horse with a stick."

Sorry for being very blunt however, I feel this thread is obsolete and I don't see any need to keep adding on to this. With that said, I'm finished with this post. Thank you.
