Title: Older 4-8-4 GS4
Post by: Showboat55 on October 17, 2016, 06:03:31 PM
I would like to know, if the shell body for a DCC 4-8-4 GS4 American Freedom engine Shell is compatible for an older style 4-8-4 American Freedom engine shell , I want to DCC this engine, is there enough room to install a DCC kit in it, the older style shell, or do I need to order a DCC shell A new one?

The decoder usually goes into the tender. The shell should be of no concern.

For what it is worth, the locomotive shells are not inter-compatible. But you can do a few things to get what you want...
1. Buy a new one with DCC
2. Install a decoder in the old model (either in the cab or tender generally) (provided you are knowledgeable in DCC installation)
3. Do a lot of work on the old shell to get it to work with the new loco chassis (not worth the time and effort in my opinion)
