Title: Breaking in older locos?
Post by: Flare on December 31, 2016, 12:33:48 AM
I just got a Streetcar off the bay that appears to have been sitting for a few years, and it's not running well.

I opened it up and replaced the old gray grease with the pink stuff, put heavy gear oil on the motor bearings, and cleaned the contacts.

It will eventually go full speed after a little back and forth motion on the track, but what speed is ideal for a long break-in run?

I also have my eye on a New Old Stock 2-6-0 that I imagine will have the same problem.

Thanks in advance!

Could be oxidation on the pickups and wheels.
A medium speed should be fast enough in my opinion.
Let it run for a while , i would say, half an hour to start with.
