Title: Sound for GE 44 ton switcher
Post by: Ernie K on January 29, 2017, 01:58:04 PM
Hello all.
I am getting a Bachmann 44 ton switcher with DCC and am wondering what Sound module is best for this locomotive.
Thank you in advance.

Sound Decoder not a sound module.

Bachmann partners with SoundTraxx for many of their factory installed sound decoders, so consider

44-Ton Center Cab Dual Caterpillar prime mover  sounds  included in SoundTraxx Tsunami2 decoder
TSU-1100 GE Diesels Part no. 885002,  Speaker # 810112

Want better decoder consider LokSound Select Micro Sound decoder

I stripped everything out of the single motor version and installed a lokSound v3.5 Micro with a 25mm x 35mm oval speaker in a styrene baffle in two 44 tonners some years ago.
I had to cut a small piece out of the frame with a Dremel and diamond cutoff wheel on each side to allow room for the speaker and baffle, maybe 1/8 inch square pieces. I kept the 12 volt light bulbs as they look a little better than LED's to me.
The SoundTraxx Micro 750 at the time had temperature issues and did not want to take a chance. The new SoundTraxx versions are much better.
The 70 ton single got the same type decoder but used the LED's it came with.
With better speakers today, I would think you would not have to do that. Sugar cube and iPhone speakers have really come into sound in locos.
