Title: Coupler differences?
Post by: Big Blue on March 19, 2017, 12:31:10 AM
What is the difference between an EZ mate and an easy mate 2 Bachman coupler?
How do I remove an EZ mate coupler to replace it?

An EZ Mate II has a metal spring holding the knuckle head closed. This is much preferable to the plastic bit on the regular EZ Mate.

Most Bachmanns have a small screw that holds the coupler box closed. Swapping our couplers is pretty straightforward, unless you have some really old equipment.

But if you can afford it I would skip the second EZ mates and use metal Kadee couplers if you are replacing.  They will last a longer.
