Title: Spectrum 280 Stuttering
Post by: Bluefox92 on April 08, 2017, 07:08:23 AM
I picked up a few locomotives at a swap meet not to long ago, a Baldwin 2-8-0 and a 3 truck shay. The Shay ran perfectly fine when I got home, the 2-8-0 however did not. A friend suggested a new decoder which I picked up, a Digitrax DH166P. The engine worked, but would stutter after a rotation or two. I tried running with the jumper plug from the Shay and it runs fine but then the shay stutters with the decoder. The box from my shay mentions something about components that may cause a malfunction in some DCC decoders. Some sites show the capacitors being cut, and both locomotives have them...but I'm worried about just going and cutting it...any suggestions?

Try a Bachmann decoder in the engine to see if it works, they are usually available at a low price online.
