Title: Can I Use Kato Loco ???
Post by: kingmarco on August 27, 2017, 03:54:33 PM
Hello, I am new in this field, and start with Bachmann Trains, scale HO, the quality of the product is very good according to the price.
My questions is if I can use another brand of Loco in the Bachmann Echo Valley Express set, Kato for example, and if it work with all the function (light, sound, speed, direction) or is better use only Bachmann equipment to avoid problem of compatibility.
The track are the Ez-Track and the control is the EZ-Command control center.
Thank you for your time and help.

If the Kato loco is equiped with DCC it should work just fine.

Thanks in large part to the NMRA standards, you should be able to run any loco on your layout. If you buy an engine that is not DCC-equipped, you will need to install one. Most engines made in recent years (decades?) comes with a receptacle for a decoder, you normally just have to remove a dummy plug and plug in the decoder. Several companies make decoders, both sound and non-sound, and any brand decoder will work in any engine.
