Title: Shell Removal
Post by: Wutulookinat on September 04, 2017, 03:54:40 PM
I bought a EMD GP40 locomotive, Santa Fe DCC equipped. I want to remove the shell, but am not quite sure how to do so without damaging anything. The diagram that came with the loco. doesn't help very much. Can someone tell me how to remove the shell?
Thanks

Looking at the diagram, it appears you just need to spread the middle of the shell a bit on both sides. Sliding a toothpick between the shell and the frame on both side should open it enough to grab on to a complete the job.

I found on another forum that you have to remove the fuel tanks. Then you will see two screws. Remove the screws, shell drops off.  It took me a greater part of a day to finally Goggled and found the forum. :D

I have a Bachmann GP-40 as well and to remove the shell, just remove the screws holding the couplers in place and lift the shell away. Most Bachmann diesels are like that.
