Title: Couplers
Post by: monte1000 on October 19, 2017, 04:53:06 PM
I have a 2 bachman train sets.  No problems until i try and run the cars on a hill.  The couplers keep detaching from the engine.  Can anyone suggest the best couplers to buy so that they are not continually detaching?  Thanks

It sounds like the vertical transitions from level to hill and back are too sharp, causing the couplers to bypass each other. The real solution is make the transition from level to hill, and back, as gradual as possible. This can be hard to do using pier sets, but I find using a carpenter's shim to start the transition before the first pier can help. You can get a pack at most hardware and home improvement stores for a couple of $$'s.

Thanks for your reply.  Actually my transitions are great.  I do use the shims you mentioned.  Is there such a thing as magnetic couplers?  What couplers join the best?  Thanks very much.

Founders & Manufacturers of the original Magne-Matic Knuckle Coupler HOn3 through G ... WORLD'S BEST MAGNETIC COUPLERS FOR OVER 70 YEARS!  That said, It sounds like the problem is with the coupler on the engine.  Try running the train slow up the hill to see if you can see what is happening.  At any rate go to Kadee.com and it will tell you which coupler you need for the engines, and cars.
