Title: Mystery pipe on 2-8-0 and Climax smokestack

On some of the Climax and 2-8-0 models there is a vertical pipe on a standoff on the back side of the smokestack. The pipe goes down the boiler and then toward the back of the engine. Does anyone know what the pipe is for???

Thanks. You are correct. I have a friend with the Climax and we traced the line to the steam side of the air compressor.
