Title: N scale 4-4-0
Post by: iggy809 on February 23, 2018, 10:13:17 AM
My 4-4-0 has developed a problem going forward. It seems to loose gear mesh and locks-up. You can see the U joint connection raise up as it stops. Runs great in reverse. Has many hours in passenger service moving forward. Anyone solve this or does it have to be retired?

I have a similar problem on mine, but I notice that when the grinding sound starts, the engine goes a little cock-eyed to the track (but stays on it) and slows down instead of locking up.

Should I assume that this topic is on the current OLD TIME 4-4-0. However I would welcome the
American 4-4-0 ALL NEW TOOLING and the Baldwin Modern 4-4-0, in N-SCALE.

Check that the Universal is seated properly on both ends.
There is something going on there, it should not raise up even if the siderods are in a bind.
