Title: 2-6-0 Mogul
Post by: grsman on April 13, 2018, 02:33:07 PM
I have a Bachmann 2-6-0 Mogul that I would like to get apart to get to the motor and track connections.
I suspect the track connections are connected directly to the motor. I would like to bring the connections
out to the tender and install a DCC decoder. I might have to deal with the headlight also.

It's best to remove the pilot and front wheels. On the back of the loco there is nub sticking out of the chassis. There is a slot in the rear of the body that the nub fits in. You have to get a screwdriver under there and pry the body up over that nub to lift the body off. The headlight wires will be connected so you can't completely set the body aside.

Mine was already DCC so I didn't have to mess with the wiring on mine.

The link below is Bachmann's exploded view but it doesn't show the wipers or wire connections.

Installing a DCC decoder without sound  can be done without using tender.

Click Here  (http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Installation_Pictures/O_Scale/Bachmann/Bachmann%20On30%20Mogul/bachmann%20On30%20Mogul.htm) for one way.

With dcc you need tender pick-up to do well..

My article at:

http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/mogul_dcc/ (http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/mogul_dcc/)

With the new smaller Soundtraxx sound decoders, I would mount the decoder in the locomotive and would just need to run four wires to the tender.

Don't use little sissy speakers buy a couple of 40mm like in my article:

I'm pleased to see your site is back on-line Harold.  Thank you. There is a lot of good information on there. :) I used alcohol to remove the lettering from my Mogul tender and it was a pain to do. I had to repaint the tender after I finished. I'm going to get some Poly S Easy-Lift-Off. That sounds a lot better.

The only thing I EVER found to remove lettering was Easy-Lift-Off:

My article:

Everybody touts other methods but none of those chemicals did anything on any lettering.

Thank you for visiting

Harold,
I am very glad your site is back up.  It is a wonderful reference for On30 and model trains in general!

THANKS,
