Title: Advice wanted for adding sound to non-sound ready locos
Post by: Flare on September 08, 2018, 09:26:15 PM
I would like to add sound to my Rail Truck, 0-4-0 Porter, analog 2-6-0 (already converted to DCC), and 2-6-6-2, but I have questions.

SoundTraxx's website points me to appropriate decoders and compatible speakers for these models, but are the Mini Cubes any good compared to larger ones?  They might be the easiest option for the more cramped spaces.

If I go the Mini Cube route, will I need to get a baffle or any other accessory, or do I simply glue them in place and that's it?

Also, has anybody ever done a DCC/sound conversion on a 2-6-0 WITHOUT using the tender?  I would like to make a 'tank' conversion down the road and put everything in the cab if that's possible.

Finally, I see that my 2-6-6-2's tender is designed for a 28mm speaker, but will I need to get SoundTraxx's baffle or anything else to mount it properly?

On the 2-6-0, where would you put the speaker? Up in the roof?

I milled the top of the weight away inside the fire box.
Enough space for a small decoder without sound.

Keep in mind that the bigger the speaker the bigger the sound range is.
The sounder Bachmann placed inside the cab of the Porter was hopeless.

Put the speaker in the tender on the 2-6-0.
I liked the sound emitter put in the little Porters.

He wants to make a tank out of the 2-6-0 with no tender.
