Title: Body swap
Post by: Havrerail on September 18, 2018, 04:15:22 PM
Has anyone investigated possibility of swapping the body on new DCC sound 2-8-0 with shell of the old Reading 2-8-0 that Bachmann offered years ago.

Unless perhaps Bachmann plans to offer a DCC sound version of the Reading I-10 consolidation!

I have 6 Bachmann DCC sound steamers (wonderful) but my  sad little Reading I-10 is wobbly DC and obsolete.  If the chassis are "close enough" I'd buy a new DCC sound consolidation and execute the shell swap!   Thoughts?

Dunno, but go look and see what the Spook has to say.

Good luck

I did a test fit of the I-10 shell onto the chassis of a first run of the SPECTRUM 2-8-0.  It will go, but will require more than a little work.  I never did go beyond the test fit.

The boiler shell from the 2001 "DCC friendly" 2-8-0 will fit on the new DCC w/sound chasis.  The tender shell however will not swap with the tender from the DCC w/sound loco.  My only beef is that the headlight is too faint to really see.
