Title: Bachmann Echo Valley - JMRI - installed decoder
Post by: tnkumar on November 05, 2018, 11:16:53 PM
When configuring JMRI Decoder Pro, for Bachmann, it provides the following options
  E-Z Command decoder
    - 2 function decoder (36-552)
    - 1 function decoder (36-551) and
    - 4 function decoder (36-550)

Which should we choose for the Bachmann Echo Valley?

Page 5 of the Sound Value Quick-Start Guide says the decoders have two lighting outputs unless you have the DD40AX diesel locomotive.

This should mean that the loco has a 2-function decoder.

Thanks @Flare

In my locomotive that came with the Bahcmann Echo Valley kit, I can control 5 to 6 sound effects, lights on, off and dim. Do I still choose the 2 function decoder?

Yes, the two functions are for the forward and rear lights.  The sounds are independent.  (I know it's confusing at first)

Even in sound decoders, the 'functions' are typically for lights or lighting effects such as strobes or firebox flicker.  Since your loco only has two lights the 2-function option makes the most sense.

You're welcome.  However I don't have that specific model of locomotive so I may be mistaken.

If that's the case you can set CV 8 to 8 to reset the decoder to factory settings if it messes up.

Here is the complete list of CVs for that model if it helps you:  https://www.soundtraxx.com/factory/images/bachmann/pdf/ho_2-6-0_sv.pdf

JMRI Decoder Pro E-Z Command is  for  the nonsound decoder.

Also , the complete list of CVs https://www.soundtraxx.com/factory/images/bachmann/pdf/ho_2-6-0_sv.pdf contains errors and awaiting correction.

Generally –
JMRI Decoder Pro current Bachmann Sound Value steam definitions are found in the
Family: Tsunami Steam Bachmann Sound Value
   Manufacturer: SoundTraxx (Throttle-Up)
http://jmri.org/xml/decoders/SoundTraxx_Tsu_Steam_Bachmann_SndVal.xml

BTW -  Using Tsunami as part of the Sound Value decoder family is a misnomer by JMRI as Sound Value decoders are  not  Tsunami.
