Title: new Climax
Post by: charon on January 21, 2019, 04:53:50 PM
Just received my undecorated, with sound Climax, new in the box. It runs great and the Bachmann sound system is excellent. And for all you 10' minimum radius guys, it runs just fine on my 15 1/2" radius test oval.
Thanks Bachmann.

I run all my Climaxes - Climaxi?- on a minimun 5 foot diameter curve.
Keep in mind: running a larger loco on small dia. curve will cause greater wear on the drive train.
I run only 0-4-0 locos on curves smaller than 5 foot dia.

R J is correct.  I should have added the caveat regarding operation on tight radius curves.

Running these two truck geared locos, Shay, Climax and Heisler, on tight radius curves does them absolutely no harm. The two trucks each have a small wheel base and were made for tight curves just like their prototypes. RJ's "warning" is moot for this type of loco.

Be careful with the shay, really tight curves can cause the driveshaft to disconnect, it will turn sharper in one direction than the other.

While the locos can take very tight curves, you will get a bit more wear than broad curves, but Joe is right these locos will run tight curves.
