Title: 72' HO heavyweight passenger cars
Post by: Barry Karlberg on June 16, 2019, 11:24:58 PM
Will these coaches go around 24" radius curves or what is the minimum radius?

Thanks,

From the on-line store description, "Performs best on 22"radius curves or greater."

So they should be fine on 24" radius curves.

It's taken a long time for this question to come up again but we all knew it would.  Which is:

What works at all vs. what looks right.  Whether you are interested in toy operation vs. realism.

I have 5 72' heavyweight passenger cars that I won't operate on my layout because of a 24" Radius curve.  Oh yes, they roll around the curve just fine.  But do they look like a real train? Of course not.  They look like a toy Christmas train set circling under the tree.

I bought these cars now for a future layout that can handle them, in anticipation of models of vintage equipment eventually going away, like steam engines are slowly but surely.

I suspect the OP already has an existing layout with 24" curves, and just wanted to know if the cars could negotiate them.

So do I. They looked much worse than I expected on the curve.
