It should run on DC. DCC ready means the manufacturer has installed some provision for connecting a decoder. Usually an 8 pin plug.  From the factory, there is usually a dummy jumper plug installed on the 8 pin socket. This jumper needs to stay in place if the loco will only ever be run on DC.  The jumper is removed to install a DCC decoder (which can usually be setup to also run on DC).  Without the jumper in place, the loco will not run at all

Hope that helps.

My Bachmann steamers came with two three pin adapters and instruction sheet how to plug them in. The adapters were in place.
The locos with decoders had the adapters in an envelope.
My 44 ton diesel DCC ready had two metal clips in place on a PC board where I would solder the seven wires for a decoder. Just remove the clips.
The diagram pages usually show all of this. Look in the Information page.
There are variations with Bachmann.
My Athearn Roundhouse steamers had a nine pin jst adapter for DC. I had to hard wire for a Tsunami Micro.
Other brands will vary.

It should if unmodified.
DCC ready still means different things to different manufactures.
Some provide a plug.
Some a different plug with more pins
Some have provisions to solder directly to the PCB, after removing the jumper plugs.
To others, it means only that the motor has been isolated.

What manufacturer's lokie(s) are you asking about?

Should already just come like that.
