New void:

New jig, same raw materials:

And, what I came up with:

The blue tape is to keep the plaster from running all over the place while I add the landscape material.  The bridge
is only temporarily installed.

...as always, more to come...

Great idea with the matches. I'll keep that in mine for the matches I have left over from making a wood load for my On30 Mogul.

Yeah, great idea with the matches. Also, do you just plan on weathering the tracks and bridge?

I've found matchsticks make good inexpensive ties for handlaid track.

Just make sure they're used matches. Or 'visiting fireman' could take on a whole new meaning.

For those who aren't old enough to play with matches yet, there's always bamboo skewers.

Make sure you cut off the pointy ends so you don't poke your eye out !

Enjoy.

I do use bamboo skewers a lot to hold pieces of styrofoam together when I glue them. Sometimes I just stick them in at an angle and pull them out when the glue is dry. Other times, if I need a little extra support, I'll coat a skewer in glue and push in to whatever depth I want then clip off the end that's sticking out. Then give the glued piece a little extra push in to make sure it's below the surface.

Landscaping is finished.  Temporarily installed and partially weathered.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/64697048_411343073056303_9176638965858435072_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&_nc_oc=AQkfdkgP78XVoucHHVKBF-pF4DMnG929ZSzxu4qrM_T0PAaPZwmJwWUjOeVi0dxA2Jc&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=a2a593918bf29ee40f5f8256d6d74a40&oe=5DBF3958)

A lot of 'cardboard' landscaping to do yet.  I also want to add more 'waterfalls' behind for the source
of water downstream.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/65049049_411343203056290_6914905081796100096_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&_nc_oc=AQn1S4BS6G0L6rzWj0tZVQGSuccyqALytTWL9SxMie-_v6Xs1lcS52Y9MwJlfu4xjnI&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=4ab74f45b4071cd22f71beb39deb95a2&oe=5D7E681A)

The backside probably won't get any weathering since a bluff will be covering it.

Thanks for previous comments, more to come...

Finally got the whole bridge/bluff diorama done.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/67654101_435368697320407_2693060905385590784_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&_nc_oc=AQnxzrCU9fHQLQrGVm7o_BYUr6wuJOIZZ2hh8V8Tk6pmqaL3V0j7bBqHQykn7D1TlBI&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=b3e8ad43afd48c351ae4377c7b8ecf6c&oe=5DD1A78D)

It should be pretty obvious where the waterfall will originate.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/67889836_435368767320400_8970502547357827072_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&_nc_oc=AQmEhtQ8MSu-1sd9jqj8L9sZeoW8nZn_qKCCFyeeT1ZKKM92VH2olRzq4964EVyRm1I&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=e2b3e762930cf127b8db7b57433dcabc&oe=5DD5DEAE)

Here it is, installed (temporarily of course).

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/67670506_435368867320390_1793813161556574208_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&_nc_oc=AQm_116NEhNy0ab241vzLLtrOnMb_UdMK-Pcn6bFG7Vw985308je1YanVKATwoA5NvI&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=e57977a2220d689b97f185c450fb7754&oe=5DEB98FC)

Next, I'll have to work on adding the waterfall and the rest of the 'downstream'.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/68410648_435368930653717_7979189941861089280_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&_nc_oc=AQkekjoT8XRLq5SEA4DoxOuHLCJCH4wFr_bUC8qlgNyb1qbACE7hL1dcTKA8dMScs8A&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=ccf5f30ccce5e23e3bbe293286021068&oe=5DE96E00)

...more to follow.

Just thought I'd give a little update of what I've been doing with the latest project.

I'm starting to make it more permanent by blending it with the existing scenery.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/68634553_445169426340334_8152920729034162176_n.jpg?_nc_cat=108&_nc_oc=AQn1S6dwd7UzPcfOSo38vVvwReYQObrT-nK8TJV_R6S31nMJjepSa7NKexB7K8m0E6o&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=145ab6c109577af6f39b9e2040b1b303&oe=5E0929AC)

...also adding water to the 'source' of the waterfall.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/68866062_445169496340327_852588799673237504_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_oc=AQluQPs4StgDGNawcx3pXRp8MWJpy12bxLFeV26kRAJ5t0S1FcN9aseFbouDAn35azs&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=c8ab5f46234b1cb6d3755a7ccb67ef7d&oe=5DD848E4)

Below you can see how I use cardboard to build a framework that will support the plaster cloth that will cover it.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/69235774_445169653006978_5718639729310695424_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&_nc_oc=AQlGqtbEyJr7FbpK-hYZPu9xgATDqIuY16dbcHk-JrNqBJvlNQsoz4XeiLEYr5n5w8k&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=79097c5823e3ce6de02fad75a4a53e0a&oe=5DC817D3)

Top center is where the scene is.  This pic was taken from the opposite end of my layout.  About 18 feet distance.

Quick question Ken.
Who's the woman on the train pilot, reply #10, picture 4?
Just a random train climber?

Security's pretty lax on this railroad, no bulls...!

Finally finished.

First, I put up a cardboard 'netting'.  It doesn't have to be neat.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/69939819_450142432509700_7372471200791920640_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&_nc_oc=AQlBicmnodmi49FYCOy3yKf4fAi5cFV_XLPxhqj5d7mqZsjgYrTh8BJeMfYdURf0xPY&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=cb1857e9f9618da3b764c85af1fd7a0d&oe=5E0108BC)

Then added plaster cloth and landscaping.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/69927793_450142515843025_3280528189989847040_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&_nc_oc=AQmNHvgoeExEWSiKSKq-LTa2oRMWylKqH6Dp5GSg5J5e-P-6yzIbZd3lOVRYbYXJtNI&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=c9922ccd835ae287fcb1d998579e07e0&oe=5E14DBF1)

Started to add water...

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/l/t1.0-9/69522549_450142632509680_2069898813304209408_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&_nc_oc=AQkU1lMqbv5ZuLa4oZSRp6TPMYXGvNm5YpkQAUt4RXHO2TjDqaw_mTgkybtdl29xg_A&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=b5ea9bfd2d283b94afc29caf8bcd5331&oe=5DD3DC26)

Downstream is to the right.  I may have to 'lower the waterfall because the stream bed is actually below the
height of the waterfall down stream.

(https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/69958637_450142829176327_1624170938436157440_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&_nc_oc=AQlK0PR6_YG_bRFykeChjvsihaqRsiShPJte6NFJen-ETYDXu_1qY7JrgZAMJ9i3m-g&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-1.xx&oh=4f48f168560397150626410b9085391f&oe=5E165BD4)
