Title: 0-6-0 idler gear need
Post by: Jim O on January 08, 2020, 05:04:22 PM
Hi everyone,
I have a Bachman train set that is approximately 25 years old.  I have a USRA 0-6-0 locomotive with slope tender that needs a part.  The white plastic idler gear on the drive wheels is cracked on both sides.  The motor runs fine but drive wheels do not turn since the gear is cracked and shafts spin.  I cannot find this part on the Bachman  website, only parts for current models.  I do have a parts list and exploded view for this model which I could not attach to this post. The part I need is stock Number 2957.  Anyone know where I can get this ?
Thanks,
Jim

I think I saw that loco at the HO Seeker page diagram and it has the pancake motor and it is quite old if I am correct. The gear had the same part number. It is called an idler gear like you said. Last I knew, HO seeker does not allow posting photos in forums. I use to try.

You need a photo hosting site to post photos here.
I gave away a couple of those locos sometime ago.
Someone here might have one.
Jonathan is familiar with those locos.

Edit.
If no one here has one, your best bet is ebay and that is chancy.

Buy a new 0-6-0.  Getting a good engine to cannibalize to fix an old one with a terrible motor  is like the guy who killed his healthy chicken to make chicken soup to feed the sick one 😂😂😂.
