Title: Question about EMD 'calf' unit
Post by: lanny on December 22, 2007, 10:41:29 AM
Hello all,

Who manufactures an HO 'cow/calf' switcher? and also, what is the prototype length of the 'calf'?

Thanks for the help or directions where to find the answers.

Lanny,

Athearn used to, I think they may still make them in the blue box line.

The calf was the same length as the "cow" It just has a low hood box (for the controls) in place of the cab.

Lanny- A quick eBay search for "Athearn calf" yielded three or four cow/calf sets for good prices.- Mike S.

I still purchase quite a bit of Athearn equipment, including Blue Box. Haven't seen any cow-calf switchers offered though.  That doesn't mean they don't exist.In addition to E-Bay, I'd do some hobby shop checks to see if any might be in stock. You could also ask Athearn directly via their website. Hope you can find the units.

Athearn still lists the EMD SW7 Cow and Calf on their website.  Whether or not you can find them for sale(the few discount model railroad suppliers list them as not in stock)could be a challenge - especially if you have a road preference.

Lanny;
I will check my sources, as they are usually pretty good with tracking down that which no longer exists...(?)
Have a great New Year.
