Title: Adding a current keeper to an HO American 4-4-0 with DCC Sound value equiped sys
Post by: jaywiley6 on July 26, 2020, 02:21:48 PM
Is it possible to add a current keeper (keep alive capacitor) to a new American 4-4-0 DCC that has the sound value equiped decocoder?  Would it fit in the tender or does it have to go in the engine?  Thanks.

Maybe, maybe not. Some years ago I bought this loco DCC ready and I had to rip the PC board out to install a SoundTraxx Micro and speaker.
I just looked at the sound version diagram and I see two PC boards. Depends on size of stay alive.
Do you have the loco?
I have a similar 4-6-0 with two PC boards but larger tender.
Others will comment.

Rich, have you tried it yet,  or had any other thoughts?

No. Found out I did not need it. All track and turnouts hand laid.
The small driver loco with sound, no way that I can see.

I just realized you meant the American, not the somewhat larger HO 4-4-0. My bad. Sorry.

Soundtraxx has a new Current keeper out that is only 20mm long.  Would that work?

I do not have that version of American. Do some measuring if you do. Thickness and width also.
Don't forget the warranty on the locomotive.
