First of all, you did not tell us which locomotive.
Go to the SoundTraxx site and look at the decoder selector page for Bachmann locos. They well tell you the decoder and speaker.
They have decoders for sound and non sound.
They show the sizes if the tender is small.

Ok, I did some more thinking about it. It seems you want a mobile 8 pin plug in non sound decoder.
Be careful. SoundTrax has 21 pin non sound decoders.
There are some brands that come as a 8 pin plug in with no wires. Not sure about SoundTraxx.
Some are 9 pin.
No idea about your experience with DCC.

You really have to be more specific in posting a question in the forums. Best I can do.
