Title: J Class 4-8-4, loco body removal
Post by: MTouhey on February 24, 2021, 01:27:20 PM
Hi,   I have been the happy owner of one of your fine J Class locos  ( even have one of the earlier version as well )     -     after it being away in its box for at least 5 years, I decided to give it a run.   It was rather noisy and erratic.

Decided it would benefit from a bit of a home-service/lube job.     Got the Instruction sheet out of the packaging   -   the same one as on your online info page,   namely  N821X-IS001

I shows all the bits,  quite a work of art really   -   but does not actually tell you how to get the loco body off to be able to get at the motor bearings.   I have taken out the two screws behind the pilot and the two beneath the cab,  but that did not seem to release the chassis.   Didn't want to pull too hard in case of causing damage.

Can you advise please how to get inside this fine machine ?

Very Best Regards,

Martin  Touhey

The method for removing the loco shell from older and newer versions of the J-class 4-8-4 can be found near the bottom of this page:http://www.spookshow.net/loco/classj.html

Thanks Dave,   I'll try that tomorrow in the daylight.   Hope it works.    MT
