Title: "Emily"
Post by: Cortland on December 30, 2007, 01:12:47 PM
Bachmann makes Thomas the Tank Engine products. A new locomotive is called "Emily". Can the "smiley face" and rolling eyes be removed from the smokebox door?

Dear Cortland,
They can, but you'll have to fabricate a smokebox front.
Happy New Year!

For those who don't "do" Thomas, Emily is a model of a British 4-2-2 Single.  I saw one at my LHS, and it has a fascinating, almost bizarre drive.  The front axle of the pilot truck rotates.  The second axle is fixed, and is in fact geared to the driving axle so that there is enough traction to move a train.  Must have taken some time for someone to figure out the right ratios so that both wheels turn at the same speed, despite being about 4 times different in diameter!  In continental parlance, the model would be a
1-A-A-1.
