Any ideas where I might find a front step for my 45 ton side rod diesel. One step has broken off and I lost it. I've been quite successful at casting repair parts, but the open grid of the step has proven to be quite a challenge. I don't need the support strap, just the grid part.

Locomotives are shopped for many reasons, while you are skilled at making parts, perhaps the boys at the engine house decided to weld on a solid step! ;D.
When I was actively volunteering at the Colorado RR Museum I noticed many instances where shop crews made repairs as best they could. Some of it was pretty rough actually. Sometime we even had to make a replacement for a replaced part ::) 8)
