Title: On30 4-4-0- a little noisy
Post by: Jeff in NJ on January 06, 2008, 07:09:34 PM
I have two of the new On30 4-4-0s. Both seem seem to have a little more (maybe gear) noise than most of my other Spectrum locos. One has a little more noise than the other. They both have Lenz Gold Series decoders installed in them. They have been lubed and greased. Will this noise fade as they break-in or is it a decoder setting I'm missing?

Dear Jeff,
Not  sure. Break them in and let us know if they quiet down. Perhaps others who have the locos will comment, as I'm on te road and can't check mine.
Have fun!

My 4-4-0 was a bit noisy when I first ran it, but I lubed and greased, and gave it a few hours of run-time on the test track loop.  It has quietened down a great deal, although the motor still has a little buzz.  Maybe I'm just not used to a loco without sound anymore...

Try running it for a few hours, at different speeds, forward and reverse.

Thanks for the suggestions. After a bit of running, one has quieted WAY down, the other is getting there. I love these little locos...
