Hello All;
A friend of mine sent me an email asking whether I had seen any information concerning an On30 model for a vertical-boilered steam locomotive. He said there had been some discussion about it at a Yahoo On30 group site. I noted that I had not seen anything here, but I would try to look around and try to find out about this locomotive.
I still have not seen anything here, so I thought I would ask whether anyone else at this site knows about it.
My friend is fond of using Bachmann On30 stock to kitbash Gn15 equipment, so I am sure he has an idea for a future project for the vertical-boilered locomotive.
Thanks to all in advance for any help. I can only lurk from work, as corporate IT has a no post policy, so don't be upset if it takes me a day or longer to respond to any of your questions.
Sincerely,
David Meashey
Check out Backwoods Miniatures. They have a vertical boiler loco kit.
Here's a link to a picture from their site.

I know of a few in addition to the Backwoods Miniatures kit mentioned by John R.
Tom Yorke produced a kit for what he called a "vertical boilered teakettle" late last year. This may be what your friend was thinking of - it did get a bit of discussion on the ON30 Yahoo lists. This was a strictly limited edition - I don't know if it is still available.
Then there are the vertical boilered geared locomotives. The Boulder Valley Models Dunkirk is of a vertical boilered locomotive. Cache Creek had a kit of a 4 wheeled vertical boilered Climax, unfortunately due to illness they are not currently taking new orders. Wiseman Model Services has a brass model of a vertical boilered Shay.
Not ON30, but Railway Recollections has a kit, in ON18, of a small freelance vertical boilered loco.
Also not stricly ON30 are the UK O16.5 models. These are British O scale (1:43.5) running on 16.5mm (HO) gauge track. Wrightlines has a kits for a de Winton vertical boilered quarry locomotive and for a Sentinel vertical boilered locomotive. Avalon Lines (available through Pepper7) has a kit for a small vertical boilered tram locomotive (steam dummy in American).
I am fairly sure that there are others.

Get your friend to check out www.gn15.info and its "GnATTERBOX" Forum - where they are currently discusing vertical boiler locos in Gn15.
