Title: Removing Lettering.
Post by: hjmurray on February 13, 2008, 07:06:10 PM
I bought a "Christmas" Big Hauler with the intention to repaint. What might I use to remove the lettering and the painted-on decorations?

Thanks

Three products I have used--
1. 3M "Safest Stripper"  it is a white gel, water soluble.
2.  "Oops!"
3.  "Goof Off"

Last two for small jobs.  Glenn Joesten

The gold paint Bachmann uses for its lettering comes off rather nicely with a cleaner called "Super Clean." You can find it at your local auto parts store. See the "Garden Railways Basics" column in the Feb. 08 Garden Railways for more on removing lettering.

Whatever you use, try it on an inconspicuous spot first to see how it may effect the underlying paint. I've tried a number of different products, each having different effects on different paints.
