Title: Dismantling an ho Shay
Post by: robert on March 26, 2008, 06:06:41 AM
Can anybody tell me how to get the boiler off of an ho 3 truck shay. I can't find any screws or anything else that might be holding it on.

I think this is one of the Great Mysteries of the Universe.....lol.

I have 4 of them, and just dropping the ashpan to get at the main drive is difficult enough.

This is one tutorial I know of.....but even with this, I haven't attempted it myself.

I think the screw you are missing is hidden under the power pick-up pad for the forward truck.

They do have a diagram of the 70ton 3 truck shay on this website.

Go to product reference/diagrams/spectrum. them scroll down to 70ton shay.
I would recommend printing out the diagram as you'll get a clearer picture.
there does look as theres a screw for the boiler under under the front power truck...

hope this helps

Just the title made me laugh...good job, though. I'd still be searching in the complicated spots.
