Season begins May 24, tickets sell out fast so better hurry. Prices are very reasonable. If you don't want to ride, there are scenic lookouts along I-70 for great tele-shots. Oh yeah, "thar's gold in them thar hills".

Here are some more great pictures of the loop. It's only 2 miles from Georgetown to Silver Plume, but elevation increases 638 feet, about 6%. A couple of loops and a spiral cuts it down to about 3.5%, while increasing the track distance to 4.5 miles.
In picture 3, a runaround at Silver Plume gets the loco to the other end. Note diverter in picture 6.

nice!
I rode the line last July and really enjoyed it. A true model railroad, scaled up to 12" to 1'.

How did you feel when you crossed Devil's Gate? It's a long ways down. Sometimes they get high winds in the canyon.
Bob
Bob, it wasn't windy the day we were there. After the drive up from Durango in a heavy rainstorm, nothing on the Georgetown Loop fazed me. Tame by comparison.
Larry
That must of been rough.
I have never been to the Georgetown Loop but I saw the segment of video on Great American Train Rides Vol. 1 by Pentrex. I hope to go there some day.

Well come on out and take a ride, Colorado needs your money. Bring some warm clothing and jackets, the temp can drop from 80 daytime to 35 at night. To us, 40 is shirt sleeve weather.
I visited here 30 years ago, and never went back to the midwest. I was born in Kansas but my roots are in Colorado.
I might When Im older Im only 12 with gas prices these days hardly anyone can afford it.

Can't you fly or take the train?
I prefer train. But who cares, a vacation is a vaction, heck- I'll make my own electric car engine if I need to go up there.
