Title: new product
Post by: pdlethbridge on June 05, 2008, 01:53:26 AM
Can you please produce a 60' passenger wood car like these? As a lot of the hobbiests have small railroads, a couple of these behind a 4-4-0 or 4-6-0 would look great! You could make 60' closed vestibule steel coachs as well. These were used with the wood coaches until the end of steam on the B&M. Thanks

Bachmann better watch out, for I will beat them to it in resin kits!
By the way, they are appropriate between 1900-2000 and are great in commuter service,  branchline service, worktrain service, or excursion service(Strasburg). They are found all over the US. Even in California!

Paul
Would you be willing to amend your motion to 58' overall, including couplers?  I think that would be acceptable for my layout, though I might have to change the outside track to 22" curves.  That would be an 8" car, I could live with that.

Of course I would prefer Rio Grande lettering.  The color pictured is fine, I don't like Pullman green.  Smoke gray glazing for the windows and clerestorys.

Put me down for 5.  I could run 2 as is, and bash the other 3 to about 48'.  Better have a couple of RPO's and business cars too. But don't wait too long, I'm pushing 70 you know.

Are you sweating a 1/4" or less as that would be about the difference. You could switch to a short shank coupler and get that back. The B&M ran these cars until the wheels fell off, well into the 50's when they got rid of steam in favor of budd cars. Not bad for a wood car. They also had 60' steel closed vestibule cars

Ok, I'll withdraw my motion if it will make you feel better.  :D

Again to the Bachmann, 58'-60' passenger cars are not being made except by Labelle, a very nice, pricey wood kit. This could be a great seller for all those needing a 58' to 60' passenger car. A baggage, a combine and a coach of open end wood or closed vestibule steel cars would be a great addition to the Bachmann line. Many railroads used these, not just the B&M.

Or this coach, which New York Central owned! I think Funaro & Camerlengo makes a resin kit of it, as well as P54 coaches.

Thats probably a seventy footer, it has 4 more windows (23) than the open platform cars.

Roundhouse has a nice line of 50 foot Overland cars. Four cars to a set or available individually. I have seen them up close and are very nice. They are the era you like. Each car in a set has its own number.

The Roundhouse cars are now produced by Model Power. Look at their website - they are RTR with knuckle couplers.

The 60' coaches are being re-released by Hornby/Riverossi. If you look around you can find plenty of 4 car sets of the original Riverossi sets.

I have been collecting a few of these sets.

Yampa Bob,
One of the sets I bought is the DRGW set, unfortunately the base colour is the Pullman Green with Gold lettering.

Seems someone else has jumped on the Bandwagon! (http://baystatemodels.webs.com/) Although those cars won't be out until February 09, it will give Bachmann Time to think about making some 60 Foot cars!

I just got in a set of Roundhouse 50' Overland (4) Rio Grande from Historic Rails, the last set in stock. They had one set in Southern Pacific, my friend Clif from Texas got that one.

NOTICE
They are no long being offered as a car set only.  I have mentioned this before, Horizon has pulled them and now only offered WITH a vintage loco, EZ track, and Athearn DC controller.  Delivery date is undetermined as usual.

I repeat, the 4 car set is no longer available!!

On my layout, the 50' looks about maximum for 22", but a bit long for 18".

The Model Power cars are Mantua, with talgo trucks.  If you refer to my "Talgo Upgrade" thread, the combine pictured is the Mantua.  I got a few of them last year, but now they are all backordered with undetermined delivery.

Roundhouse is produced by Athearn, a division of Horizon Hobbies.

Products sure change fast now. I found the new Overland sets on ebay, buy it now for $55.00 and the set with engine for $143.00 buy it now.
Caboose Hobbies is now handling the 34' Overton. No more Overland.
I believe the Overland where introduced Feb. 2007.
The same is happening with the Bachmann lines. The market changes quite rapidly for many items.
You almost have to watch the products every day or miss out.

Yes, I forgot to mention that the Overtons have finally been released to the dealers on a limited run, I waited 6 months for my set.

I have a dealer friend that sends me factory updates soon as he gets them.  It's a great help to me, being stuck up here in the boonies I seldom make it to hobby shops.

To the Bachmann. Is there any chance you could make a shorty coach, combine and baggage car that were used on short lines or commuter lines. Having them available as separate units would be great too.

Caboose Hobbies added the Overlands to their site in June 2006. They were slow movers at first, but now are in great demand.  I feel lucky to get my set, would buy several more if available.

GG;
If someone else will already have the jump on them, why would Bachmann, a company that already has a great market following, be wanting to chase a hand, so to speak?

On the F&C passenger cars:
I am not sure if Steve and Sharon actually did them, or just bought them-or packaged them for- the Rutland Car Works.  I have, in my collection, a Rutland baggage car kitted by F&C, but the box says "Rutland Car Works".

Also; are you saying you will be doing resin kits?

I think Bachmann has a better chance of hitting a homer, than a small company.

Quotelso; are you saying you will be doing resin kits?
Hm?

Ambroid, now Northast Craftsman Structure Supply (http://www.necraftsman.com/) will be reissuing the B&M Coaches. They will be using Laser Cut wood parts, and updated white metal castings. [:D]

GG, Baystate model has dropped their B&M coaches because of the northeastern return of the old kits and is now working on the P2

I looked at their site. I asked and they said they will be doing the resin coach body, but won't be making any truck or frame castings. I can't wait to see the 2-6-0's and 4-6-2's. With luck they shouldn't be too expensive!
