Title: F40 Amtrak (phase III) and Decoder Question
Post by: steveeusd on June 18, 2008, 07:38:56 PM
Hello--

Does anyone know if Bachmann ever sold, individually, an HO-Scale Spectrum Amtrak F40PH (Phase III [and this is key]) loco with a Bachmann decoder already installed?

As far as I know, Bachmann has sold decoder equiped F40s (Phase IV) in sets with 3 amfleet cars.  But, I don't think Bachmann manufactured an F40 (Phase III) individually with its brand decoder already on board.

Any help would be appreciated, especially from the Bach Man.

Thank you,

Steve Williams

To my knowledge, the phase IV F40 in the "Continental" train set was the only Bachmann F40 ever offered with a factory-installed decoder. All the Spectrum F40's do come with an 8-pin DCC plug preinstalled, so you can put in your own decoder without too much difficulty. Keep in mind that Bachmann has discontinued its F40PH line, and has replaced the F40 in the train set with an HHP-8. That's too bad; despite it's prototypical inaccuracies, it was a sweet-running engine, probably the best engine I've ever owned.
