Title: Three Truck Shay Firebox Light
Post by: 1benson1 on March 03, 2007, 09:04:07 PM
Thanks to the help provided here by John Loesch, I installed a TCS decoder in the tender of my new #81901 3 Truck Shay. I'd like to program the firebox light to flicker. Any suggestions on CV settings?

And by the way, the TCS DP5X is a true "plug and play" - no wires to solder, no resistors to install to protect from blown lights (they're built into the decoder). Only 20 minutes from start to running - neat!

Rick:
So far as I know, the firebox light is 'hard wired' so that is just stays on and is not controlled by a function output. You will have to seperate the light and wire it up to its own function output. This requires disassembly of the locomotive, which can be found at

You will need to get some fine wire; TCS sells 32 gauge wire through their website, or, you LHS may have some by Walthers or NWSL.

Best of luck,
John Loesch

Thanks John. After looking at the web site, I think I'll enjoy a non-flickering firebox!

Thanks again for your help,

Rick
