These are just a few of the prices I am not pleased with. I know gas prices are the cause of some of this but $19.00 for a thin piece of plastic on wheels seems just unreal. :P

Those prices are really expensive and I remember getting some of those items and the prices were much more cheaper then that. I wonder why they would change the prices like that, I got those items for half of the price from where I bought them.....
Even so, those prices on ready to roll express coaches are nothing compared to what you would spend for north american heavy weights.
One friend who collects them for his cousin has just started to get em from TT station. He has gotten Henry and Emily along with her coaches and told me he is soon to get a Toby model from them to. ;D

The reason they are cheaper there is because they are sold at Wholesale prices. In my opinion, I think that Wholesale sellers are hurting the hobby as a whole. Now the manufacturers themselves mind you but all the LHS's (Local Hobby Shops) across the country.
Take my advice and save the extra cash to help keep your LHS in business, so you will be able to obtain the cheaper things such as track, sceanic items, books, and magazines.

He's right. Local Hobby Shops ARE going out of business. More people are buying online, and many of the remote hobby shops are closing. There are some great ones that will stay in business, but since the internet came into being, people have gradually began buying more from online retailers like Trainworld (http://www.trainworld.com) and Whole Sale Trains (http://www.wholesaletrains.com).
No worries GG! I do LOVE trainworld, but my parents hate online shopping, so it's all local. But the local hobby shop sells at MSRP!!! >:(
But, a new HUGE Hobby Lobby will be opening, with a train section! ;) Only because Hobby Lobby sell other craft items does it become a Hobby store with many stores.
Hobby Lobby is essentially a store like walmart, it also helps kill little hobby shops, and the employees aren't as knowledgeable... If there weren't as many online discount dealers, Hobby Shops wouldn't have to sell at MSRP to make a profit...

If you had read my post correctly you will have seen that I said Local Hobby Shops. Without thses shops, not only do we have to rely on the internet to see new products, but we also loose the satisfaction of buying at hobby shops.
You sir, need to find a copy of the September 2008 issue of Classic Toy Trains and read the excellent "View From the Underground" column by Lou Palumbo. I won't bother to say what its about, but I think you can tell.
This is not just to Pittsburg and Thomas, but to all who read this. Instead of giving into the "Instant Gratification" urge that dominates us all in modern day america, and buy at retail price.

Also, a local hobby shop is a good thing. At mine, I can have a good look at an item before I buy it, something that I cannot do over the internet.
Plus, the staff know about what they are selling, and you can have a good chat with them about model/train/etc...
THe point is, your LHS is a good thing. If it goes, you would miss it.
I buy from Hobby stores sometimes but the nearest one to me is 2 hours away (NSLHS Not So Local Hobby Shop) so I only make it to them about once every 2 months which does not work verry good when you just want to get that thing of paint or pick up the newest coppy of a magazine. One solution to this that I have tried is to order it from them over the phone but it bugs me to be paying $8 to ship something to me that is only about 50 miles away. One hobby shop in my area is doing something that gets the best of both they are a hobby store that you can visit but also have an online store that has prices that are almost as good as the big companies. Their website is www.onlinetrains.com and they are located in Tacoma Washington.
Yes, our local one is about a 1 1/2 mile run. They are on the internet, but I don't think you can order from there.

They have sold most of the Spectrum items, and the Thomas is now on the other side, across, from that HO-N scale stuff to make room for a crap load of scenic tools and couplers, track cutters, signs, etc... Yes I do love buying from there, and the clerk told me that even with selling manufacture price, they are just making monthly rents and fees, and that's only a 1-story corner store. I fell bad for them. I do love to see that Hobby Lobby to be build, but I would hate for it to cancel out that store, where else can you buy HO scale crap and walk next-door for antiques, and then to comics? Oh, well I should just ask my dad to take me down there for Labor Day weekend. :)

Just saying this as it's rather annoying checking back and seeing 5-8 "new" posts with 4-7 of them being old topics dating back to almost 3 months ago.

I just purchased Bachmann's Gordon, his 2 coaches, & the other 2 similar coaches like his for $98.71 including shipping & handling. Also purchased Bachmann's Toby, Spencer, & Percy for $70.00 including shipping & handling. You can find a lot of the rolling stock there too. Haven't seen the Bachmann buildings for sale there yet but it seems they have the rest of the Bachmann line-up for sale.
I forgot to mention in my previous post. They are all HO scale & brand new in original sealed manufacturer packaging. Bought 6 new Thomas rolling stock cars for 54.13 there also. Their Bachmann numbers are 77037, 77035, 77030, 77036, 77029, & 77042.

i agree with all of you about the prices of the thomas range they or expensive. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I find some of the prices for the bachmann range a little steep but inthe UK where we have Hornby Thomas models they are incredibly expensive when compared to their bachmann counterparts.
An example is the Hornby Gordon model can cost about £80-£90 while with the bachmann it is much cheaper. I could get a Bachmann Henry and Gordon for the price of a Hornby Gordon ;)
