Hi, I was wondering if I can run my postwar Lionel on DC without hurting it.

All items built before 1970 had universal motors that would run on AC or DC.

You can also add a bridge rectifier to the locomotive so that the direction changes when you change track polarity, just the same as with permanent magnet motors.
