Title: Proto2000 DCC
Post by: ajp3751 on August 12, 2008, 07:50:11 PM
I have several proto 2000 GP30s and GP9s. On the boxes they have a DCC logo, but do not say ready or equipped. I opened up one of them and there is a circuit board wired to lights, motor and some resistors on the board. It looks as if there are eight pins with wires coming from them so I'm guessing that could be a decoder already in place. I currently just run them DC, but I am currently making plans to convert all of my locomotives to DCC. It doesn't look like there is a place for a decoder to plug in. Does this mean it is already equipped? By the way these were made by life-like before the walthers buyout.

Give Walthers Service Dept. a call and give them the product numbers off the boxes.

414-527-0770

1-800-4-TRAINS (1-800-487-2467)

They should be able to tell you in a heartbeat which are DCC-Ready or DCC-Equipped.

Those arent decoders just circuit boards with resistors for the low voltage lights. Digitrax makes a drop in decoder for them or any 8 pin decoder will plug in when you take that circuit board out.
