Title: Repair and Manual for Southern RR PS4 Pacific
Post by: Einar Anderson on September 05, 2008, 09:59:39 PM
Our club has a beautiful PS4 Pacific, formerly owned by a member, now deceased. It "hit the floor" on at least one occasion. It needs a new bell, headlight lens, and we need a manual to set the electronics and help us get it up and running..
We sent the loco to Bachmann, and got it returned "unreparable".
Any ideas concerning sources for a manual, spare parts, and eventual repair?
Any help appreciated.

Many thanks.

Dear Einar,

Are you sure it's a Williams?

Is it 3 rail ?

Is it O gauge?

What is the road number?

Is there an electrical cable running between the engine and tender?

I see some MTH, Lionel and K-line (all 3 rail O) equipment on the internet, but no Williams (or Williams by Bachmann).

Are there matching passenger cars?  What make/style are they?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Dear Einar,

Your locomotive was made in the late 1980's and no repair / parts manual was every developed for these locomotives.  All of the parts that were available were exhausted almost 10 years ago. They were limited production items manufactured only once per model type.

Our current version of reverse boards will work with you loco. But we have not detail or mechanical parts for these locos.

You can test if the loco is mechanically sound by removing the boiler  (1 screw in the from and two in the rear. ) Use a DC power pack and connect directly to the motor terminals slowly apply power to see if anything is binding.  You may be able to straighten the bent part and get it running again.

If your probelms are limited to cosmetics, you could possibly find some O scale detail parts vendors in Model Railroading classified section.

I hope that is some help.
