Hi just got one of the newer 40cw's and what decoder is better for it. I gather looking at it that it is just a swap board style decoder?
Thanks
Tony
No, it's not a board replacement, there are solder points on the board.
first, this badboy has to go, don't worry, removing is approved by Bachmann, will not void warrenty

Thank you so much for that, will pick up a decoder in the next week or so and follow your directions.

The decoder pictured is a Digitrax that appears to have had a bit of the protective sleeve trimmed off to make it shorter. Either the DZ123 or the DZ125 would be appropriate for this application, but there are other brands available.
the decoder is a DZ125.
this install is fir a dash 8, but for the decoder install part, under the shell it's the same as the SD45, in fact I was doing both a dash 8 and a SD45 at the same time, and some of the pics are of one, and some are of the other, as can be seen by the shell in the background.
