Title: On30 20t climax
Post by: R704 on November 09, 2008, 05:33:32 AM
Hi all,
can anyone tell me what happened to (or if it even existed) to the 20ton tapered boiler climax.
i'm looking into making a model of Puffing Billy's #1694. but so far have been un-able to find a tapered boiler climax.

There is a mention of the Bachmann 20 ton climax on this website:

thanks,
nick

1694 is, in Australia, usually described as 25 ton not 20 ton. (I am not sure if this is Imperial (long) tons, or USA (short) tons, 25 long tons is about 28 short tons).  The Bachmann model referred to by Fletch is the Large Scale model, which was close to 1694 and could be fairly easy modified into a model of it. When the Bachmann ON30 model was first announced it was thought it would be similar to the LS model, however instead an earlier, straight boilered prototype was chosen. Bachmann have never produced an ON30 Climax with the tapered (or waisted) boiler.

Many of us in Australia were hoping the Bachmann ON30 Climax would be close to 1694, the only known 30 inch gauge Climax, but it was not to be.
