Title: Name the new LS articulated contest?
Post by: Joe Satnik on January 03, 2009, 11:12:08 PM
Dear All,

In the tradition of giving nicknames (e.g. "Connie", "Annie") to new Large Scale locos, let's start a thread to name the new articulated.

A knowledgeable Large Scaler has recently said that new LS "Mallet" is more accurately a "Meyer".

My entry:  "Oscar"

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Technically, the model is a Meyer but was the original design from Baldwin for the D&RGW (which was never built) a Mallet or a Meyer? If the first, then my vote would be to call it the "Mallet" (correctly pronounced "Mal-lay") or if the second, just "Meyer."

I think we should call it a "Mallet".

I can see giving a nickname to the Consolidation and Anniversary since they are such long names, but this is a Mallet.  It is such a short name to begin with, why give it a nickname that is even longer than the original?  I am going to agree with az2rail on this one, just call it a Mallet.

I changed my mind - I agree with John Huey - Quasi-moto is a great name for the new engine.   :D

"Artie" of course.   (Is it really a Mallet, or a simple articulated?)  (large cylinders in front, or same size all around?)   gj

I'll vote for either "Mallet" or misspelled as it's typically pronounced  :D: "Malley!"  ;D                                                                   Tom
