Hi Fan,
I'm not familiar with the J tender, but looking at the exploded diagram, there is a long recessed screw in front of the speaker grille on the bottom. If you don't have the diagram, you can view or download it here:

Hope this helps.

Glad to help.  For future reference, was the recessed screw the only one securing the shell?  Are there any plastic tabs in addition to the screw?

Describing the complete procedure would be a help to others.   8)

well, ill try to describe it.

yes, you have to undo the recessed screw.

second, there is also another screw behind the rear trucks and the coupler that you have to undo.

third, i guess you would call them tabs but you have to spread the two sides of the tender away from the body and pull up to get it free.

(you may also undo the weird hooking device between the engine and tender for a little bit more freedom with moving the tender around)

I hope this helped some Yampa.  :)

Good description, now that you know how to do it, you can help others who have the same question. (I was just guessing from viewing the diagram).

In other words, you have been promoted from "helpee" to "helper".  Keeping the information flowing is important to the board.

Thanks.
