Title: 0-4-0, 0-4-2 Porters
Post by: minerjoe on January 18, 2009, 11:53:40 AM
I am looking for suggestions to improve the electrical pickup on the two Porters.  Thanks, minerjoe

Maybe by adding some weight.
I'd like to know how to DCC the Porters.

Thanks for that.
here's a quote from the All Model Railroading website about poor pickup
"change out those 0-4-0 plunger springs for Kadee freight truck springs for a better pick-up, longer life and resistance to shorts!"

Blooming heck, been a long time since I wrote that piece of advice.
It only applied to the early 0-4-0s
Not so sure it applies to the latest ones in production.

The newer Porters built in the last few years have a new chassis without plungers.   I install DCC differently without taking the frame apart.  The decoder is in the cab with a channel milled in the underside of the water tank to handle the wires.
