I had suggested a Newfoundland Railways EMD NF210, but after finding drawings and blowing them up to O scale, the thing is huge - as big as the 2-8-0 with the tender.  If someone offered EMD parts in O like you can get from Cannon & Co. in HO, I'd try building one though.

Something on the order of a GE 44 or 70-tonner might be a wise choice - the unit could be designed so it could be offered as standard gauge, or On30 that could be adjusted to 24" or 36" if a modeler desired.  Theoretically it would then be possible to bang every possible market from On30 to scale O to Lionel O27 with the same basic superstructure, and because Bachmann has already done HO GE 44 and 70 tonners, it should reduce to an extent the research needed to do an O version.

I think Rich Yonder is coming up with an On30 Model of one of the locomotives.

B'mann already makes a GE 45ton loco in G scale, it's just a question of shrinking it to fit...

Superthomasfan is correct. Rich Yonder has an ad for the Southern Pacific shown in. As a matter of fact, it is the same picture.

What are you kids thinking. I left HO to get away from Diesels. Please Bachmann, don't waste your efforts on Dieselizing On30.

      Enjoy,

Boulder Valley Models sells nice bashing kits that transform Bachmann's 44 and 70 ton HO diesels into cool little "critters" that are DCC equipped.  So, i'll have to agree with Barry, with one exception; the White Pass and Yukon's ALCO's or GE's. If Bachmann produced either of these, I for one would sooooo  happy!  :) :) :) :)

The only problem with converting an HO diesel into an On30 unit is that the trucks are still HO scale. What makes a narrow gauge diesel interesting is the "oversized" trucks, like an awkward puppy with big feet.

Don't forget what I said about railcars/railbuses/doodlebugs. ;)

Super Thomas Fan,
I'd love to see a doodlebug, but I think the current railbus will be all that we see from Bachmann for a while. Oh well, I think those are easy to bash.

BTW, my son is a Thomas freak. I think the new animated faces shows are the best, as they still retain the "Trains on a layout" feel. Who knows what kid's shows he'd be watching if it weren't for Thomas.

I see what you mean about the railbuses. I'm planning an On30 layout with cartoon characters and might get a railbus and Rio Grande Southern Railtruck no.1. I like Thomas, also. :) :D ;) ;D

Hey Barry, while you are getting out of diesels some people (like me for instance) would dearly opt for a NG growler... I like modernized NG railroads, with "big" diesels, steel cars and heavy trains, a "big" growler would find a sure home here! Like the GE UM6B locos once used in South Africa, 4 to a train lifting 600ton + loads up 3% grades on rails only 24" apart...pure magic!

Cheers NB

Has there been any narrow gauge boxcab diesels?  ???

Superthomasfan

Yes

"Boulder Valley Models" makes 0n30 conversion kits for "Bachmann" diesel mechanisms.

Some assembly is required in kitbashing. You get better at it each time ya do it.  :)

You didn't have to leave HO "to get away from diesels". There are many steam loco's in HO. Admit it, you just like ON-30 better cause ON-30 is FUNNER!

Geoff,
those are some awesome looking diesels. Thanks for posting.

Seems like there are a lot of possibilities for Bachmann here. They could create a B-B or C-C chassis and put a bunch of different shells on it.
