Title: Loco to tender plugs
Post by: arekay on March 06, 2009, 11:52:46 PM
I have recently purchased a Spectrm tender with 2 plugs on the wiring harness.  Will these plugs fit into all Spectrum locomotives with DCC ready/ equipment?  Thanks

Hi Arekay,

Short answer is.....NO. Some Bachmann locos have the male connectors installed on the loco, others have the same harness and plugs as you have on your tender.

This creates a  male/female mismatch at the least.  Also not all tenders are internally wired to be compatible with all locos, and vice versa.

Please refer to the following thread for some examples where the tender has male connectors instead of the wiring harness and plugs.

The separately available USRA Medium tender (shown in the pictures) comes with two small adapter harnesses (female to female) to connect to a locomotive with male connectors.  However, these adapters are not wired correctly for all locomotives.

If you plan to mismatch locos and tenders, be prepared to do some rewiring and/or circuit board modifications to make them compatible.

Hope this helps.

Bob is correct.  In addition the "medium" Vanderbilt comes with the extra harness, though I think the long Vanderbilt (16K C&O) does not.

Update

The 2009 catalog has significant changes in the tender section. Please refer to the following thread.
