Title: wheel wipes
Post by: pdlethbridge on March 10, 2009, 11:42:47 PM
Mr. Bachmann, Can I purchase wheel wipers that are on the connie 2-8-0 tender. They contact the axles on each truck to give the engine better connection to the track. I'd like to get several sets if I could. Thanks, Paul

I would like some too, but so far have not found a source.  The alternative is cutting them out of shim brass.  Not as long lasting as phosphor bronze, but a lot easier to find.

I bought some phosphor bronze sheets from Micro-Mark, very easy to work with.

These shears do a nice job cutting out small parts.

For axle wipers, I cut a rectangle 1/2" wide, make the hole, then cut and notch 3 "fingers" instead of the usual one. This style is used on the newer Bachmann tenders.

I just got off the phone with the parts department and ordered 16 of those little suckers. At $0.25, it was a bargain.

How come they have wheel wipes and not Delta trailing trucks?  ???

Maybe they took the wipers off all the USRA Medium tenders they dropped from the line.   :D

I could use some insulated wheelsets for the tenders, guess I'll give them a call.

Thank you, gentlemen, for the links.  The Scale Shop one looks particularly promising - they have .003 phosphor bronze, which is the same thickness as the Bachmann wipers.
