Info for oiling locomotive gears:
1.  You MUST use plastic-compatible lubricants.  My personal favorite brand is LaBelle, but there are others, as well.  Grease for the gears, oil for bearings, powdered graphite for couplers.
2.  LESS is better.  Too much grease or oil will just spread itself around the layout, making the track dirty and attracting dust.  Put a little dab of grease on a gear and run the engine.  The grease will distribute itself among the gears.
3.  Go to your LHS or your LL (local library) and find a book on model railroading.  Most have a chapter dedicated to locomotive maintenance that will show you how to do several things to help keep your engines purring.
4.  If you need specific illustrations or info for a particular Bachmann engine, there is lots of info available from members here.
Hope this helps.  Good luck.
