Title: Minimum radius on the Climax
Post by: dmolavi on June 16, 2009, 09:22:54 AM
I'm planning a dogbone shelf layout to include my On30 Climax, but can't find the minimum radius anywhere. Right now, the plan has 12 inch radius curves. What is the minimum radius the Climax can run on?

12" radius is the recommended absolute minimum radius.

Build a small test track and try it out before you commit to
building your layout.  also check your track plan to see if
you can use 12.5 or 13" radius curves.

13 inch curves might work, as the plan is 28 inches wide.  thanks for the info.

I would caution you to TEST the min radius before laying track. My Climax doesn't like anything less than 18" . When I tried 15", it wanted to bind up, due to the angle between the drive shafts and U joints. But perhaps this is just a quirk in my sample.

Hey don't forget to test the radius with the cars you are planing to use, I got great advice here to do that and it saved me a huge headache. truck mounted couplers caused no problems with the min curve test but body mounted caused some derails
