Title: An Elusive Diesel?

Hello, Bach Man

The DVD that came with my Digital Commander set showed a silver and red Santa Fe GP40 with DCC On Board.  Can you please tell me where I can buy one of these engines?  Are they even available for purchase?  They seem to be hard to find.

The ATSF didn't have any GP40s in Superfleet paint. I think Bachmann dropped it because of its unprototypicalness.

santa fe only had one gp40, that they acquired in the merger with tp&w in 1983. it was wrecked a few years later and scrapped. the only standard cab locomotives santa fe had painted in the warbonnet were several ge u28cg"s.

Now I kind of want one so I could say there was only ever one ATSF GP40 with those colors.

Here is an idea Mr. Bachmann, make a tribute model for that loco and have the same number! ;D ;D ;D

Bachmann doesn'tmake U28CGs. All other superfleet locos were widecab EMD and GE, and a few SDP40Fs/FP45s. The one GP40 ATSF had was never in warbonnet paint.

Oh, their goes that idea! :( always thought that paint job was more for passenger than freight.

the original warbonnet was the passenger colours for the santa fe. it was applied to those locomotives used in passenger service. when amtrak took over the passenger trains it was discontinued.
santa fe resurrected the paint scheme in the early 1990s for use on high speed intermodal trains. all subsequent road locomotives were delivered in those colours regardless of intended service. that is why you can find photos of warbonnets on coal trains....
